Welcome to Team Teddy's 2007 Season!
Update July 2007
We did it! Team Teddy's 2007 season has come to a fabulous conclusion, as Elisabeth crossed the finish line of the Anchorage Mayor's Half Marathon with her friend Sally. Elisabeth achieved both her goals: to finish in less than 4 hours (3:49:28, to be exact), and to raise $4,795 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Sally achieved her goal of finishing her first ever half marathon. Congratulations to both of you, we are very proud of you!
Update April 2007
Team Teddy has some very interesting news for all of you. Elisabeth is currently in training and will complete the Mayor's Midnight Sun Half Marathon, in Anchorage, Alaska (June 23rd). As many of you know, Elisabeth suffered a severe injury last July when she was training for the Nike Marathon in San Francisco. The healing process is slow but manageable. However, Elisabeth has decided to participate in the half marathon (13.1 miles) rather than the full marathon (26.2 miles). Erika will be attempting to follow along. Once again, call us crazy - we, Team Teddy, are going to be participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT)! That means we're going to be raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
We'll all have to wait a few years to see Elisabeth complete her goal of finishing a full marathon.
Last summer, you will remember that Team Teddy adopted Darby Northway, a co-worker of Elisabeth's who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on February 3, 2006. Team Teddy welcomed her into our family and we continued to lovingly support Darby as she fought her battle through chemotherapy treatments. Unfortunately, Darby lost her valiant battle with AML on Wednesday, March 28, 2007.
Darby was a fantastic, loving and eccentric individual who will be sorely missed by Elisabeth and Team Teddy. She faced chemotherapy with a great attitude and laughed her way through her challenges. Darby loved to receive and share jokes to make everyone's life just a little brighter. It is in her honor that Team Teddy will walk this marathon. For those of you from UNE, you may know Sally Witham in ITS. Sally will also be walking with Team Teddy in honor of Darby at the Mayor's Midnight Sun Half Marathon this June!
Who is Team Teddy? We are Elisabeth Haase, Erika Lawson, and Tad Gallistel. We continue to raise money in honor of Ted Lawson (hence our team's name), our father and brother-in-law, who was diagnosed in April 2002 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). Ted entered remission in early 2003 and continues to enjoy good health, thanks to folks like you who have continued to contribute to the cause!
Since 2003, Team Teddy has raised over $22,000 for LLS through the TNT program. Last summer we raised $3,800 to attend the Nike Marathon in San Francisco. The Massachusetts Team in Training Chapter allowed us to 'bank' the funds so that this spring, Elisabeth could attend the Mayor's Midnight Sun Half Marathon. We need to have raised $4,795 to attend the Mayor's Midnight Sun Half Marathon, so we are raising at least $1,000 this spring.
TNT will provide us with coaches, mentors, teammates to train with over the next several months, with at least 75% of the funds we raise going directly to the cause.
We are very committed to this cause, and to our goal. We hope you will find it in your hearts to give generously - whatever you give counts!
